Climate change impacts

By the end of the day on January 8 the average Canadian will have produced as much greenhouse gases as the average Afghan will produce over the course of the entire year.  Therefore, January 8 (eight days into the year) is "Climate Change Impacts in Afghanistan Day."

As a result of climate change, it is anticipated that drought will become the norm for Afghanistan, rather than a temporary or cyclical event.  This will lead to desertification and land degradation, which will have negative impacts for vulnerable groups.  Agriculture and water resources will also be impacted by climate change.
