Climate change impacts

It takes only 39 days for the average Canadian to produce as much greenhouse gases as the average Costa Rican will produce over the course of the entire year.  Therefore, February 8th (39 days into the year) is "Climate Change Impacts in Costa Rica Day."

Home to one of the world’s most diverse ecosystems, Costa Rica faces unique threats from climate change. Vast and delicate ecosystems such as the mountain cloud forests may experience shrinking biodiversity as the region warms and dries due to climate change.

“Journalist Rowan Hooper visited Costa Rica during the rainy season and hiked into the cloud forest prepared for a day’s long journey through the rain. Expecting torrential rainfall Hooper and his friends shocked by the weather that followed, ‘...here we are in the cloud forest and there are no clouds.’”
