Climate change impacts
It takes only 217 days for the average Canadian to produce as much greenhouse gases as the average Kazakh will produce over the course of the entire year. Therefore, August 5th (217 days into the year) is "Climate Change Impacts in Kazakhstan Day."
Kazakhstan is already experiencing rising temperatures and increased duration of heat waves. Rising temperatures will also impact wheat production and other income generating activities such as sheep breeding. Mudflows due to increased rainfall and melting of glaciers will present a serious danger to people in certain areas. In addition, the melting of these glaciers could contribue to conflict situations over water supplies, as many of the glaciers border other countries.
