Climate change impacts

It takes only 31 days for the average Canadian to produce as much greenhouse gases as the average Kyrgyz will produce over the course of the entire year.  Therefore, January 31st (31 days into the year) is "Climate Change Impacts in Kyrgyzstan Day."

Kyrgyzstan will be impacted by climate change through direct impacts to the country’s water resources, biodiversity and the population’s health. Non-infectious diseases, such as skin cancer and infectious diseases such as malaria will increase as the temperature climbs. Kyrgyzstan’s biodiversity will begin to dwindle, as desert areas begin to expand.

River flow is expected to increase due to the acceleration of glaciers melting. Kyrgyzstan relies heavily on imported energy products and will continue to do so, as the country uses little to no renewable energies, though the fuel and energy sector do not depend on the climate.
