Climate change impacts
It takes only ten days for the average Canadian to produce as much greenhouse gases as the average Liberian will produce over the course of the entire year. Therefore, January 10th (ten days into the year) is "Climate Change Impacts in Liberia Day."
Climate change impacts are already being felt in Liberia, as the average temperature has increased and is expected to continue rising. Changing rainfall patterns will affect communities dependent on agriculture, and it is expected that malaria and waterborne diseases will become more of a threat throughout the country. Coastal communities are threatened by sea level rise, and coastal erosion.
