Climate change impacts

It takes only 166 days for the average Canadian to produce as much greenhouse gases as the average Libyan will produce over the course of the entire year.  Therefore, June 15th (166 days into the year) is "Climate Change Impacts in Libya Day."

Libya is already vulnerable to the impacts because of the country’s natural arid and semi-arid climate conditions.  Potential climate change impacts that face Libya include desertification, increased fire risk, spread of pests and diseases.  Climate change could also make existing water resources problems even worse, due to intrusion of sea water on coastal groundwater aquifers, changes in precipitation levels, and increased evaporation.
