Climate change impacts
It takes only 53 days for the average Canadian to produce as much greenhouse gases as the average Panamanian will produce over the course of the entire year. Therefore, February 22nd (53 days into the year) is "Climate Change Impacts in Panama Day."
Panama is faced with many potential climate change side affects. The most prominent issues are increased floods, droughts, extreme weather threats and rising sea levels. These are in part due to rising temperatures and deforestation.

"The Panama Canal is the shortcut between the Atlantic and the Pacific oceans. As the Earth's climate changes, the canal will face changes, too. It depends on rain, not seawater, to fill its locks, and changes in rainfall might mean the canal could run out of water."
