Climate change impacts

It takes only 260 days for the average Canadian to produce as much greenhouse gases as the average Saudi Arabian will produce over the course of the entire year.  Therefore, September 17th (260 days into the year) is "Climate Change Impacts in Saudi Arabia Day."

Most of Saudi Arabia is composed of vast arid deserts yet it is a particularly sensitive to the effects of climate change. The already marginal lands are at risk of changing rainfall patterns, desertification, more frequent storms and a rise in sea level. These environmental changes carry the risk of affecting the availability of water and food in the region.

More information about the impacts of climate change in Saudi Arabia can be found on page 45 in the United Nations Development Programme report on Human development.
