Climate change impacts

It takes only 144 days for the average Canadian to produce as much greenhouse gases as the average South African will produce over the course of the entire year.  Therefore, May 24th (144 days into the year) is "Climate Change Impacts in South Africa Day."

“South Africa is already a climatically sensitive and water-stressed country. Much of the country is arid or semi-arid and the whole country is subject to droughts and floods. Any variation in the rainfall or temperatures would thus exacerbate the already stressed environment. Most South African crops are grown in areas that are only just climatically suitable and with limited water supplies. The impacts of climate change will thus worsen the serious lack of surface and ground water resources, exacerbate desertification and may well alter the magnitude, timing and distribution of storms that produce floods.”
