Climate change impacts

It takes only 24 days for the average Canadian to produce as much greenhouse gases as the average Tajikistani will produce over the course of the entire year.  Therefore, January 24th (24 days into the year) is "Climate Change Impacts in Tajikistan Day."

Tajikistan is already experiencing the impacts of climate change.  More frequent droughts and more extreme weather conditions are hitting poor communities and eroding their resilience.  Increased air temperatures are causing the country's glaciers to melt leading to greater water shortages and potential disputes in the wider region.
