Climate change impacts
It takes 302 days for the average Canadian to produce as much greenhouse gases as the average Turkmen will produce over the course of the entire year. Therefore, October 29th (302 days into the year) is "Climate Change Impacts in Turkmenistan Day."
According to Turkmenistan’s Initial National Communication to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, it is expected that the country will experience an increase in air temperatures and decrease in precipitation levels. The issue of water shortages is expected to become worse with glacial melting caused by climate change. “Glaciers presently contribute up to 70% of the water flow in the major river systems of the region during hot, dry summers.”
